Web 2.0 - Bill Gross Launches Snap Search Engine
Bill Gross used Web 2.0 to launch a new search engine called Snap (yes, the old NBCi name has been resurrected). Gross was the original founder of Overture so is not new to the search industry.

Snap, while still only in beta, promises to allow searches to refine their search results on the fly. To refine your search results, you can filter on a word or phrase within the listings you get from your query. Type a phrase into the slot for Web Results to compare it to the title, descripition, and URL of each listing. Filtering brings matches to the top and removes results that do not match.

Snap also licensed the feeds from ISPs of anonymous data so that they can better understand what searchers do after they have completed their search. Snap obtains click-stream data from this "Network of Users", comprising more than 1 million internet users. This allows Snap to use this information to help searchers pick a search result based upon what thousands of others selected.

Transparency is unique to Snap and allows it to reveal all of the information and statistics that make up the site. It also allows advertisers to select how they wish to pay for their placement, including pay-per-conversion. This unprecedented access to the search engines' data allows searchers and advertisers to get a better understanding of what is going on behind the scenes.
