Search marketing in the new media era.

Web 2.0 - Blogs Continue to Grow
According to Technorati founder David Silfry there are currently 4.1 million blogs around the world with a new blog created every 7.4 seconds. He told the Web 2.0 audience that Technorati is able to track all of these blogs and most new blog posts appear at Technorati within 7 minutes.

However, nearly half of all blogs are abandonded after just 6 months with 45% falling idle shortly after being started.

Corporate blogging has taken-off over the past few months with Microsoft (see Robert Scoble) leading the way in the number of corporate bloggers. However, with companies embracing corporate blogs for communication, there are still only around 5,000 company blogs.

RSS feeds are certainly becoming an important part of the blogosphere. Numbers demonstrate a clear correlation between inbound links to a blog and whether a blog has an RSS feed. Sites that have RSS feeds typically have more inbound links than those sites that choose not to publish a feed. And those non-feed bloggers are still the majority with only 31.2% of blogs syndicating via a RSS feed.
