Exclusive: Google Updates Index Count to More than 8 Billion Documents

Sometime between 8-9pm EST, Google updated the number displayed on its homepage to reflect more than 8 billion indexed documents. The update obviously helps explain all of the recent activity by Googlebot and ensures that Google retains the title of the largest index.

I'm guessing that the timing of this update is not entirely coincidental. ;-)
