Search Engine Leeches or Search Engine Addicts?
Jakob Neilson makes a good point in "Search Engines as Leeches on the Web:" Liberation from search dependency is a strategic imperative for both websites and software vendors.

YES. YES. YES. This is an admonition I heard time and again from when I first got into search. It still holds. Somebody write the SEM 12 step program please.

Danny calls him out on his mis-mashing of paid and organic.

And Danny makes this point, which I'd never thought of quite so plainly: "If suddenly every site on the web were to block Google from indexing them, Google would have a crisis in short order. Its main "content" would have gone away, and the ads alone aren't going to keep attracting searchers."
