Search marketing in the new media era.

May 19, 2006

AOL's UnCut + YouTube's New Business Model
I had initially started this post with the working title: "AOL's UnCut + Lightningcast = a Profitable YouTube?" Then I read YouTube: Too rough for advertisers? and specifically this YouTube quote:
"That's why we're taking our time," said Julie Supan, YouTube's spokeswoman, referring to why the company has yet to post ads on its site. "The model we bring forward is going to be a new model because this is a new market."
Now that's the kind of thing that gets me excited... because if you can crack that consumer generated video nut you're going to make some sweet moolah with uncle rico. Plus I love to hear about innovations in business models.

Anyways, here's AOL's UnCut. Which I suspect they will not be monetizing with Lightningcast, though perhaps will use aspects of its ad serving model or something. I'm watching for any YouTube ad-serving acquisitions.

Also I'm writing a short post which feels really really weird. Cause I didn't do any brainstorming or anything about what that YouTube business model could even look like. That would be fun.

(Apparently UnCut has no search function right now. Watch for the ability for AIM Pages users to add video to their profiles.)
