Search marketing in the new media era.

Disco Loser ***NOW LIVE***: SEL's First Viral Video
I recently acted in a Subway commercial. And by "acted" I mean that I minted cold, hard ass-cash.

That's right folks - I'm talking about *dance moves* that are LEGAL TENDER in every state in the US and parts of Canada.

A miniscule fraction of my dance moves are available on Google Video, behind the Subway dressing: Garrett French: Hyper-Disco Marketing Geek. (or on MySpace Video) I'm the one wearing the fake afro, high waters and loafers without socks.

When Scott Rucci of Bright Idea Studios called me to tell me he wanted me to dance in his Subway commercial I said: "you liked my moves, huh?"

He replied: "well... actually... we liked your look."

And, well, I was comfortable with that.

Because though I'm proud of my dancing (I actually have the dance-floor nickname of "freakasaurus") I also think my look is, well, I think my look is *THE F-ING SIZZLE*.

If I do say so myself.

Some days later I received an email with the script, shot descriptions and... character titles.

I scanned them -
Cool Guy: (name disremembered)
Girl Next Door: (name disremembered)
Hot Girl: (name disremembered)

>>>Disco Loser: GARRETT F-ING FRENCH<<<

Needless to say I **IMMEDIATELY** called my agent.

He reminded me that everything is negotiable and got me to drive back to work (I was on my way over to Bright Ideas to show THEM Disco Loser).

In fact, by the time I'd gotten back to work he'd gotten me to embrace my *inner* Disco Loser, to be comfortable with not being the Cool Guy all the time, and to just BE.

It turned out to be surprisingly easy.

In case you haven't abandoned my sweet, luxurious prose to watch the dang video yet I'll quote what I wrote about the shoot on the day after:
"I wore an enormous afro wig, my nylon pants were slung tight and high, and my paisley shirt was unbuttoned to just above my belly button.

They had to put LOTS of bronzer on my chest.

Then I got freak nasty to some disco music with three actual professional actors. I will YouTube it when it's out - in May.

They had to touch up my make up alot because of the sweat dripping off of the curls of my afro wig."
And so I hope you'll enjoy Garrett French: Hyper-Disco Marketing Geek. There are more dance videos coming soon. If you want me to dance in YOUR video you'll have to talk to my agent. Just send me an email and I'll send it over to him ;)

On a side note I submitted the video to four video upload services:
Google Video
AOL UnCut
YouTube
MySpace Video

Google was the fastest to upload and it enabled me to send an email with a link to the video. MySpace was second fastest. And Yahoo and YouTube, well, they were just too slow for *this* guy.

Which other video sites' servers should I melt with my dance moves?
