Andy Beal's Guide to Marketing with Contests
When I was younger I clipped the notation for famous chess matches out of the news paper and played them through on my travel chess board.

Though it never helped my game, I still marveled at the strategy behind every move.

Mr. Beal sent me an email this morning, and I've been filled again with that same sense of marvel. Here's what he sent:
I've just announced an exciting new $5,000 SEM scholarship and thought you and your readers might be interested.

We're looking for the next top SEM talent and anyone can enter by simply submitting an article related to SEM. The winner will win a fantastic prize package that will help them either start-out their SEM career or advance an existing one.

Here's a play-by-play of the various benefits that this contest provides its participants:
1) Andy gets links, blog posts, and possibly some news stories

2) contest winners get prizes and industry attention

3) Industry gets new articles

4) Andy gets excellent content for Marketing Pilgrim

5) Current SEM industry experts get opportunity to reinforce their noteriety + learn new ideas

6) Andy reinforces his role as industry leader

7) Andy laying the groundwork for an SEM publishing/community blog site?
Hell yeah I'm submitting an article. Maybe something on contests, link building and how to learn from the masters ;)
